As it’s been quite a while since I’ve blogged or shared a personal post and it’s long overdue. Earlier this year I took down my entire website for a desperately needed re-do. I’m still working on uploading a few sessions, but wanted to say hello and check in, in the meantime. Hello!
I wanted to share a of some favorite things, while in quarantine 2020. We’ve done our best to make use of this time, whether it be something as simple as (finally) putting together photo albums, renovating our entire front yard (ok, maybe that project wasn’t exactly simple – but I’ll take an outdoor reno over living through an indoor one – ANY DAY), to adapting a nightly skin regimen of which I truly love to use. Here are a few of my favorite things.
I am absolutely in love with this skincare line.
I want to yell it from the mountaintops, this is what I’ve been searching for.
After our 3rd pregnancy loss, I took a step back to really look at what changes I could make to build a strong body from the inside out and reduce any outside toxins. A small disclaimer – these are the steps I took to help regain some control in time which I had none, and if nothing else – I knew I was simply doing something good for my body. It doesn’t necessarily mean these small changes will help with conception, but it definitely can’t hurt and your body will thank you bringing it back to nature.
I started with the topical; skin, hair, and makeup. I sought out to clean up everything I put into or on my body, and while I’d made a couple of changes (no fragrance of any kind, natural deodorant, BPA free products, cutting out almost all gluten, etc), I had room for more. After endless google searches on natural, fragrance free, organic, and pregnancy friendly skin products, a friend and Encinitas Esthetician, Plant Powered Beauty, recommended a list of super easy switches. A few simple changes she recommended were laundry, soaps, switching candles to diffusers, cleaning products, and Primally pure.
I’ve been looking for a skin product (or magic number of ounces of water to drink), to have that radiant *glow* – that dewy, fresh-faced, youthful, did-you-just-get-in-from-running-through-a-Jane-Austen-novel, glow. Something with natural ingredients, I could pronounce and find on my own.
Well, this is it. Primally pure products are made with certified organic ingredients, they smell amazing, they’re clean and non-toxic, and my skin has never looked or felt better. And I know that I can use their products safely throughout pregnancy. And, if I’m being totally honest – I love that I feel like I’m using something Claire would use in Outlander.
There, I said it.
2. LEKFIT
If you’ve seen Busy Phillips’ instagram, chances are that you’ve also seen the intense workouts that show her drenched in sweat. And many of those workouts involved a mini trampoline (or rebounder) – which was fascinating in and of itself. There was something different about LEKfit, and I was really drawn to it. So, I bought a rebounder on amazon and jumped in (haha), and? I. LOVED. IT.
I was hooked from the start. Everything about this workout was different and – fun. A fun workout?
I wanted something that offered high intensity, that didn’t make me dread a workout, something I couldn’t keep up with, and I found it here and loved that I could do it all at home through the app. I could work through the awkward learning curve of jumping on a trampoline and trying to maintain any sort of balance (and no one would know how many times I had to take a break during that first workout). But, I loved it. It gave me the feeling of running, without the impact of actually hitting the hard pavement. I’d finally found something that would target the areas I wanted to work out, without climbing stairs, jumping jacks, or other callisthenics that I dreaded.
I actually look forward to this workout, I wish everyone could try LEKfit because it truly is so fun and still can be so challenging. I love how it makes me feel, that each workout is something new, each week we have new classes, and I love that the instructor keeps moving with you, during the entire video and sometimes it’s work to keep up with her. The music is awesome and new and well, there’s just something about it.
I know that when I’m having a funky day where I just feel off, THIS will make me feel better and I look forward to a session.
Who am I?
Last, but not least – my favorite IPhone game – Crazy Dino Park. I’m really not one to play games on my phone aside from word search or tetris type games – and usually only when I’m getting on a flight and need something to pass the time. And, I usually take them off after the trip is over, because I just don’t use them very often. But, at the start of quarantine – we were trying to find some fun games for my son to play and this one popped up.
No, this is not an educational game, it’s just something fun. But – It’s safe for a 4 year old to play and doesn’t have commercials pop up in between completing levels (I can’t even count how many games do this – it’s like an immediate delete when I see this happen).
The app is free to download and you don’t actually need to purchase anything to play the game, but if you want to have things move faster, you can purchase ‘gems’. To begin, you go into a ‘dig site’ and starting digging up bones to recreate a dinosaur for your park. There are multiple sizes of dinos you can create and they can even lay eggs to create for more dino’s. One of the best parts is you don’t need to check in at any specific time to play. I lasted about two days, a decade ago, trying to play Farmville, because I’d forget to check on my crops.
Yes, I’m a complete nerd. Welcome.
It’s been one of his favorite games (yes we still have ABCMouse, Homer, and some other fun learning apps), and now it’s mine.
So, there you have it! A few fun, and very random things that I love and wanted to share from 2020. You can do your workout, take a shower, cleanse your skin, and settle in to go dig some dino bones for an exciting night in, at home.
Now, please excuse me while I go check on my Dino’s
